This posting will be used to fill vacancies over the next seven (7) months. This is a permanent part-time position and is not a summer employment opportunity.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Aquatics, the Instructor Guard is responsible for monitoring recreational swimming activities, and teaching various levels of the Lifesaving Swim for Life Program including:
patrolling the pool deck and scanning the water, as well as monitoring patrons to ensure a safe swim environment;
recognizing and responding to emergency situations, including rescues to the NL certification standard;
resolving problems and performing associated public education duties;
setting up the pool deck prior to your shift, clearing the deck following your shift to ensure equipment is cared for and properly stored;
attending all scheduled staff meetings and training programs;
keeping all qualifications and standards up to date;
maintaining a personal fitness level to ensure Aquatic skills and rescues are performed to NL standard;
instructing Lifesaving Society programs to standard in a safe and enjoyable learning environment;
responding to patron, parent and participant questions promptly, courteously and thoroughly;
providing instruction in and out of the water, with the majority of each class being in the water;
providing the Pool Coordinator with detailed lesson plans (short and long range);
writing, proofing and correcting Progress Reports for all of your lesson participants; and
performing other duties as may be assigned.

As the successful applicant, you must possess:
current certifications, maintained throughout employment, in:
Lifesaving Society Swim for Life,
Lifesaving Society Instructor, and,
Standard First Aid and C.P.R. “C”;
a valid, satisfactory police criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector.
The selection process will include both an interview and practical in-pool assessments.
Candidates must be available to attend the interview and in-pool assessment to be considered for a position. Only those selected to participate in this interview and assessment will be contacted.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of current certifications at the in-pool assessment. Those failing to provide such proof will be disqualified from the process.
Candidates offered a position will be required to attend mandatory training sessions as scheduled.
Salary: $24.73 per hour - $25.47 per hour (Band B)
